When the 40th anniversary of BertO knocked on the door, we realized that you could wind up with a small plate of hors d’oeuvre, a lot of friends and a big toast to mark the occasion. However, for me, such an important goal is just not enough!
We thought carefully about the meaning and importance of what had happened during the past 40 years. We had to ask ourselves, “What has allowed us to persevere for 40 years?” “Why did they stay?” We started to collect the most significant legacy, tracing the 40 years of experience of the Berto Brothers and the 33 years, 30 years and 20 years of just some of our employees. We are planning other events throughout the year to celebrate what I called back in November, “a heroic enterprise”.
One of the things that makes me happiest is reading the interviews of our employees. In some cases, I can only imagine the events, of which I have only heard of, some on the other hand I remember the episode firsthand. I like reading about the company that my father helped to build through the eyes of the people who helped make it a reality, knowing that what emerges year after year is appreciated, just as the story behind each individual sofa we make.
So, for me, … BertO40 is still very much alive!
